In our last edition of PCN, I wrote about the inappropriate use of technology by a number of our students. In this edition I am highlighting the myriad of strategies that we employ to manage all forms of inappropriate behaviour by our students. Any form of harassment or bullying is totally unacceptable and all members of our community need to be well aware of this.
We take a three way approach in responding to bullying behaviours, involving the students, their parents and our staff. First and foremost, if we are unaware that bullying behaviour is occurring, then we are unable to respond. It is imperative that unacceptable behaviour is brought to our attention, either directly by the student herself or indirectly by her friends, a bystander or her parents, on her behalf. Unacceptable behaviour is unlikely to change if those responsible are not brought to account. I do understand that students may be of the belief that intervention will only make things worse however, we cannot accept silence as a strategy.
Obviously prevention is our preferred strategy and this is underpinned by our College culture, College values, age appropriate pastoral curriculum, Codes of Conduct, awareness of support mechanisms for students, staff training in bullying prevention and response strategies and provision of information to parents to raise awareness of this issue.
It is important to note that bullying behaviours are managed on a case-by-case basis as the circumstances of each situation will vary in complexity. Our management of such issues is based on natural justice-we will always listen to all sides of the story and the outcome or consequences will be fair in the context of our College.

What a fabulous day this was with $6000 being raised by our students for the Amanda Young Foundation. Our Pre K to Year 12 students, together with staff, dressed up in Australiana- themed outfits to join in the activities during lunchtime. Barry and Lorraine Young will be attending our K to 12 Easter Service to receive the cheque from our Year 12 student leaders, who did an amazing job to bring this to fruition.
Our Year 8 Team is off to the Grand Final! Congratulations to Rebecca Rudianto, Arthena Nguyen, Elisa Stratton and Kimberley Oey who gained 1st Place in their division of this competition run by Synergy and the Science Teachers’ Association of WA. They will compete against the other division winners at Optus Stadium on April 10. The team has been working with CSIRO Research Scientist Hiski Kippo as part of the Scientists in Schools Program.
Last Monday, a group of incredibly brave and beautiful Year 12 students sacrificed their flowing locks to support the Cancer Foundation of WA and more specifically, a fellow Year 12 student who is currently battling a recurrence of her cancer after 13 years in remission.
Thank you to Vivienne Holt, Abby Marshall, Stella O’Hara and Genevieve Mathews who braved the total head shave and Laura Davenport who went for a shorter style — all to raise funds for the Cancer Foundation.
Congratulations to the following students for being selected to represent WA in the IGSSA Representative Teams travelling to Singapore and China in the upcoming school holidays:
